Journal 5/6/19 First Day
Well, today was the first day of my new job as an aspiring author. It may be ill advised or premature, but I decided to quit my day job and focus my attention on developing my skills as a writer with the goal of actually writing (and finishing!) my first full novel by next year.
I've given myself the task of posting a writing exercise every day this month as a first step, with plans to begin writing on my novel in June. I'm taking it a little slow at first, because I don't want to overwhelm myself. It is a pace I have committed to and I think I can succeed with. I want to have goals and deadlines in place so I can work towards something.
Today was a very busy day, and I didn't actually get to sit down and do my writing exercise until everyone was in bed. I ended up posting it after midnight, and this journal as well, so it shows that it was posted the 7th instead of the 6th, which kind of throws things off a little but that's okay. What matters is that I got it done. :)
It was hard to start, but I looked up some writing prompts and found one about finding a fluffy little dragon in the mountains which sparked my interest. Hopefully in the future I won't have to rely on writing prompts, but its late and I was kind of drawing a blank.
I used a word counting program which said that my entry was 623 words, so I reached and exceeded my goal of 500 which I feel is a great start. It seems that 500 words is about a page long, I don't think that's a bad place to start goal-wise.
As for the writing itself, well, it's not my best but as I said it is late and I'm tired, and I also plan to post these writing exercises freestyle, with no editing. I want to see how my writing develops with time and practice and I think this is the best way to accomplish that.
Well, with that, I think its time for bed. Goodnight!
